I believe that you can’t underestimate the power of great photos on a school’s website and prospectus. I travel across Liverpool, Merseyside and the North of England photographing nursery pupils, primary school pupils, high school students and sixth formers. In several schools I return every couple of years to refresh their images and it makes me so proud to see all my images in giant frames on the walls. 

My style is reportage, preferring a shallow depth of field so that the background is least distracting as possible and ensuring the children are the main point of focus. I work as unobtrusively as possible, capturing pupils in lessons, in the playground, playing sports, being themselves. I capture their enthusiasm, their concentration, their laughter and their friendships. I also capture the smaller details, for instance a row of colourful wellies lined up by the door or artwork on the walls, which can work really well on websites.
